Referral Scripts

Think about how you feel when someone gives you a compliment. Now, consider how much it impacts your feelings about the person or business. By sincerely complimenting your patient’s homecare and/or willingness to make investments in dentistry, you’ll increase your chances for a referral. When a patient praises their dental visit to friends and family, it becomes an opportunity for them to recommend your practice. The following referral scripts are recommendations for each member of your team to help garner good referrals.



Referral Scripts by Department

Front Office

“How was your visit today? We love it when our patients are happy. We’d be happy to take care of a friend of yours (or your husband, your son…)” or “We are accepting new patients, and we would love to see any of your friends or family who may be looking for a dentist.”

“We so appreciate you. You are always (prompt, conscientious about your investment, so much fun to talk with, etc.) We would be happy to have many more patients just like you. If you happen to know anyone who is currently looking for a new dental office, please send them to see us.”


“It was so good to see you today – we’d love to meet the rest of your family (or co-workers). Here’s a new toothbrush, dental floss, and my business card for any of your family members or friends who may be looking for a new dental office.”


Dental Assistant

“We don’t anticipate any problems with your treatment. However, if something comes up, here is my card. When you are finished with it, please pass it on to a family member or friend who may be looking for a new dental office.”



“Now that your dentistry is complete, I will need your help in replacing yourself in my schedule.”

“I want to thank you for being such a great patient. I would be happy to provide the same care to any of your personal friends or family.”

“How has my team been treating you today? You are one of our favorite patients. We would love to have our schedules filled with people just like you. If you have any friends looking for a dentist, we would be happy to see them.”



New Patient Referral Scripts

When a patient compliments the office.

“Thank you. We really appreciate your feedback. We are accepting new patients, so if you have a friend or family member looking for a new dentist, we would love to see them.”


When you have the opportunity to compliment the patient.

“I have really enjoyed working with you today, Mrs. Smith. You are very pleasant. If you have friends or family like yourself, please send them our way. We really enjoy patients like you.”

“Mr. Jones, we don’t anticipate any challenges with your treatment today. However, if you have any questions, feel free to phone us. I’ll give you my cards – one is for you, and the other is for a friend or family member who might be looking for a new dentist.”

“Mrs. Smith, here’s your new toothbrush, floss, and a couple of my cards. If a family member or friend is looking for a new dentist, we would be honored to serve them.”
